There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific concern, while others choose to stay longer to explore deeper patterns, relationships, or life transitions.
We will regularly check in about your goals and how therapy is feeling for you. My aim is not to keep you in counselling indefinitely, but to support you in getting what you need from the process.
-
The first session is about getting to know you and understanding what brings you to counselling.
We'll talk about what is currently going on in your life, what you hope to get out of therapy, and any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share everything right away. You can move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
By the end of the session, we'll begin to identify goals and create a plan that feels aligned with your needs.

Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach that helps access and process experiences that may be stored more deeply in the brain and body.
Sometimes we understand something logically, but still feel stuck emotionally. Brainspotting uses eye position and focused awareness to help the brain process experiences in a way that can lead to greater insight, emotional release, and resolution.
Not every client chooses to use Brainspotting, and it is never required. If it feels relevant to your goals, we can discuss whether it might be a helpful addition to our work together.

Not at all.
Some people come to counselling because they are experiencing anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, or a major life transition. Others simply feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or aware that something in their life needs attention.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. Sometimes the first step is simply creating space to explore what is going on.

My role is not to tell you how to live your life or make decisions for you.
I see you as the expert on your own experience. My role is to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, patterns, and options so that you can make decisions that feel aligned with your values and goals.
Together, we work toward greater clarity, self-trust, and confidence in your own ability to navigate life's challenges.

Yes. What you share in counselling is kept confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions related to safety.
These exceptions include situations where there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, concerns about the safety of a child or vulnerable person, or if records are required by law. We will review confidentiality and its limits in more detail during our first session.
